REVIEW : Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - Technically, as a film, Borat fails. It barely holds a cohesive plot together, the production values are low (intentionally so) and it at first Borat seems to be on a vendetta against every minority group in the world. Technically, as a comedy, Borat surpasses everything else this year, not that that's saying much, the quality of movies this year has been quite poor aside from notables like 'Little Miss Sunshine', 'Kenny' and 'Snakes on a Plane'. No 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang', no 'Crash', not even a decent franchise movie (we're looking at you SUPERMAN). Cast all that aside and realise that you shouldn't be offended by Borat, because, like Snakes on a Plane, he's easing the urine out of you. He's clearly not anti-semitic, Sascha Baron Cohen IS a Jew ! This whole movie is one real-life spoof. Don't be afraid of Borat, be afraid of the gun dealer who reccomends the appropriate weapon to kill a Jew, be afraid of the 1000+ crowd of Americans at a rodeo willing to cheer for 'The killing of every man, woman and child in Iraq' but boo at someone else's (admittedly false, but they were oblivious) national anthem ! Borat is insightful, and while i probably enjoyed his segments on the Ali G Show more, this movie is brilliant at what it's aiming to do - to entertain and to inform. 8/10 - Very nice!
